Evaluation Podcast Script

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
• Our radio station includes all the codes of conventions. It includes a jingle which is a loud guitar sound, then a presenters voice introducing a section and after a sound effect of smashed glass. This is then used again on a different section, so we used it more than once to gain the audience’s attention throughout just in case they lose concentration and also to make it reoccurring throughout.
• The presenters voice was male, this linked to our research as people who took our questionnaire said that it didn’t matter to them what gender the presenter was. In our questionnaire we didn’t ask about accents so we were unable to know, so we just used a plain English accent but we made the voice seem happy and also as if it was interesting to the presenter as well as the listener.
• Repetition was used throughout the piece, the jingle was repeated and also the background music during news stories was the same, we thought this was good as it makes it all link together, if we were to change the background music constantly and the listener loses concentration at any point they could find themselves confused and they wouldn’t know what section they are at.
• The focus of the voice and language was to make the presenters happy, exciting and to make the news stories seem interesting. This was proven to work well in the final piece as the stories seemed interesting from the presenters voices, the emphasis on different parts and the explanations worked rather well.
• The sound bites used as well as phone-ins were mainly vox-pops, we used these for the audience to gain a deeper understanding for the stories and so people get an opinion from the public so they can relate to the stories.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
• From our research, we found different ways to relate to the social groups of listeners, whether it was age or people with different tastes of genres.
• We chose a different range of genres for our radio station to be based upon from relating back to our questionnaire on the question asking for peoples preferred genres. This question helped us see what different people liked in their radio station, music-wise and also it could help us choose a specific name.
• We came up with ‘Radio Fresh’ this links with multiple genres of music, and it also refers to different things. The word ‘fresh’ basically means new and different, so we put it in our name to say it’s a different radio station as its fun and also it shows new things such as the latest news and songs. Because it refers to multiple things it leaves the listeners mind open to more than one understanding of it. I think the name is more urban and indie as well, which means that it refers to genres like Pop, Dubstep, Indie, R&B etc.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
• Our media product was a Radio Station, so the best way to distribute our product to an audience would be over the Radio or over the internet.
• The radio is a widely used institution, everyone has a radio in their car, in some shops the radio is playing, people play it at work places which means that the radio is constantly around us daily. This means one of the best ways to get it out to our audience would be to choose a desired frequency that allows people to tune in.
• The internet is another place where radio stations occur, whether it is online streaming or podcasts that people can download 24/7 this would be another good way to distribute our product as people would have immediate access to it and also easy access.
• The software ‘iBand’ is a program used to create songs and podcasts supplying different sound effects and jingles, this is what we used and it was easy and a very good software.

Who would be the audience for your media product?
• Radio Fresh was a radio station aimed at an audience ranging between the ages of 15-30 both genders. This was a wide range to concentrate on, we had to decide on specific genres and the way we spoke to listeners so we didn’t sound like we are too formal for the younger people and too informal for the older generation, so we had to relate to everyone as a whole by the formality of the presenters during news broadcasts as we did not want to bore anyone and let them lose concentration.
• The radio stations desired genres were R&B, Hip-Hop, Indie and Dubstep, this was because our questionnaire allowed us to see what people between the ages of 15-30 wanted, so we used these genres as it is what the audience wanted.

How did you attract/address your audience?
• The jingle at the beginning is very loud and in your face, this attracted the younger generation as they like loud things as its exciting for them, then after the jingle we made the news broadcasting more subtle and calmer, for the older generation, but, we still made it exciting for younger people by splitting it all up and adding sound effects where necessary.

Looking back at your preliminary task, who do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

• Looking back at the preliminary task, I feel that I've learnt more about the features of ‘iBand’ the recording software used to create the two products.
• The preliminary task was recorded all onto of each other meaning that we didn’t mute backing music and effects during the speech recording, this made it sound like it was a faint echo at times and the quality of the sound just wasn’t very good.
• Also towards the end of the preliminary task we discovered different effects we could use on upcoming tasks such as different effects on the speech and also different sound effects with different volumes, this came in handy for our final product as we were able to come up with different ideas and improve what we already had.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

• For the radio recording we used Apple iMacs. On this iMacs there was a software called iBand, this is a software which allows you to record songs or in the case a radio station and supply different effects and jingles. This software is easy to use and also worked very well in constructing our product.
• After recording the product it was needed to be put into a video format for it to be able to be uploaded to ‘blogger’ and ‘YouTube’ the software for this was called iMovie, this was also an easy piece of software that changed it from a MP3 format to an MPEG4 or AVI format.

Radio Name Ideas

Radio Fresh
This is my favourite idea for a radio station name as it doesn’t link with just one particular genre of music, it links with more than one meaning to the station as it could refer to ‘fresh new songs’ and also a new radio station as 'fresh' represents something brand new and original. Because it doesn’t refer to one particular genre it leaves the listeners mind open to more than one and makes you think about what genres it could possibly be. I think this could link to genres such as RnB, Hip-hop, Indie, Dubstep etc.

DJ Dub
I’m not too keen on this name for our radio station, the reason for this is because it sounds like a radio station that purely concentrates on Dubstep, also, it sounds like it would be aimed more to a younger generation as opposed to a wider range partly due to the shortented name for dubstep. We are looking for something that applies to wider audience and also show a wider range of genres.

Rock n Rolla FM
‘Rock n Rolla FM’ sounds like it applies to more of an older generation of listeners and is concentrated on rock more than anything. This sounds like a good name, but doesn’t relate back to our planning as well as other ideas . So this name won’t be considered for the final name.

Radio Ember
Radio ember is a rather good name, as it seems like it complies well with a wide age range, It sounds lively. Although, it does sound like it is more for Rock and Indie which limits the genres to only a few of our choices for the final planning. This is the reason for me not using this as the final name, the name has to link well with the whole planning as this is the first thing people know about the radio before listening to it.

Script For Radio Fresh

*VP = Vox Pop

(Song fades into Jingle)

Alex: This is Radio Fresh
Mike: This is Radio, Fresh
Pat: This, is, Radio, Fresh

(News Jingle)

Alex: Welcome to Radio Fresh's 9 o'clock news bulletin! your here with Alex, Pat and Mike to inform you on whats happening in Berkshire.

Mike: Record breaking amounts of ice in London causing serious injuries all over the city, countless ambulance calls have been made during this weather crisis, but obviously the roads are too dangerous for emergency services to be running. The government is trying to come up with solutions on how to solve this but due to the shortage of grit not much is being done to prevent this, here are what some Londoners have to say.

Londoner (VP): “It’s just amazing how many people fall over in London recently”
Londoner (VP): “I just wish that something could be done to prevent this ice”
Londoner (VP): “I fell over five times walking to work today….unbelievable”
Londoner (VP): “England just can’t cope with this weather; our whole city has come to a standstill”

Pat: If you thought Dr. Dolittle was just Fiction, you’re wrong! A scientist in Reading has recently discovered a way to translate the brainwaves of an animal into the human language. Mike Jenkins a 52 year old animal researcher from Whitley goes to Buckingham palace this afternoon to receive his OBE for animal studies. He was quoted saying “for many years now I’ve been looking into what animals are trying to say, now we finally know how to treat pets such as cats and dogs in certain situations and learn to train them correctly” Thousands of animal lovers will be crowding round Buckingham palace to congratulate Dr.Jenkings on his recent work.

Mike: And now onto the main headline news in Berkshire.

Pat: On the 22nd of February in Little Sandhurst, 17 year old Steven Ball was found dead by an early morning dog walker at the cold hour of 4:00 am. It was revealed that the student at Sandhurst school and part time sales-assistant at the Co-operative was stabbed several times whilst walking home from a late night shift. Steven Bell was found with no mobile phone or money, the contents of his wallet was scattered around the body with only membership cards and photos, all the valuables had been taken either before or after the attack. Later in the day Steven's parents were called to the scene to confirm his identity. P.C. John Michael's was called to the scene to start the investigation.

Alex (VP): This obviously is a traumatic time for family, friends and also villagers in the local area. It occurred at the early hours of this morning, but if anyone has any information about the attack, please report to the Thames Valley Police service immediately, your accounts matter.

Mike: Pandemonium at sorting offices all over Berkshire these past couple days due to the Royal Mail going on strike. Due to a series of strikes since November, people all over the Berkshire area have been missing out on vital letters and bills, causing problems all over the county. Manager of Bracknell sorting office, Steven Parker was interviewed this week ad was quoted saying ‘until people respect what we do, we don’t see why we can’t have our say back, over years we have been given the relatively unfair wages for one of the most demanding jobs, post has been a common feature to our lifestyle for decades.’ It seems this quote was rather true, and struck a few chords as members of the public speak out about how this strike has affected them

Gary Lewis clattered into Sandhursts Robbie Stack with a two-footed tackle for behind, provocking a scrap between both sides brawling for 5 minutes until Referee Stewart King abandoned the game. The FA are looking into the matter and considering a ban for Stack and also a replay that will take place on Wednesday in Crowthorne.

Ideas

Ideas for Radio Fresh: Alex, Pat and Mike
The main part and spine of a Radio Station is obviously the presenter; nobody wants to be listening to the radio having to listen to a boring presenter. Our main presenter will be a male with an upbeat, happy voice and also he must be interesting to listen to. He should emphasise certain words when necessary to make it seem intriguing, such as little facts he could emphasise how many number 1s a singer has for example. But this doesn’t mean we should only have 1 presenter only, we can have another presenter if necessary who is female to make it more mixed gender and make sure there would be a bigger range of listeners, women could feel they relate more to the female and the men could relate more to the male.
For a jingle a techno sound will be played and then a male voice will say ’99.9 Radio Fresh’ this will be edited to make it seem slightly remixed and then a sound effect that sounds like smashed glass will play, this will be slightly loud to grasp the listeners attention but not seem too in your face and enthusiastic. The mains voice will be deep and exciting to make it seem catchy and modern.
For the news and weather, a woman will be presenting who seems upbeat and makes the news sound interesting, fast music with a good beat will be playing quietly playing in the background to attract attention of the audience so they know the news has come on, a jingle will be played to start it off that says ‘the news’ with the sound effects to introduce the different section. Vox pops will be used to make news stories seem more interesting so people’s opinions on the news are bought into it so you get different views from listeners and people involved in the stories.
Order of show:
A song will be played at the beginning of the clip, which quietly fades out at the end to show it’s a radio station and then merges into the loud attention grabbing jingle to finish the transition.
Then we speak about the song that was played quickly and random short facts so listeners can be interested, then its then goes on to the news. Another jingle is played to introduce the news and then the good beat starts playing, the presenter then introduces the news, the news beat is rather repetitive and seems rather stereotypical to news shows on the radio, at the end an ending jingle plays which finishes the transition and the actual Radio Fresh jingle is played to introduce the following section.

Chosen News Stories:
· The first scientist to talk to animals gets OBE for years of research.
· Record breaking amounts of ice in London
· Stabbing in Sandhurst
· Postal Strike in Berkshire
· Sport Section – Local rivals Crowthorne vs. Sandhurst scrap abandoned/county grandslam tennis match
· Weather News

Real Media Artefact: BANG RADIO 103.6

Jingles
The presenter on the show sounded like the woman in the jingle with goes with the consistency of the station. A woman shouts ‘BANG RADIO!’ this is rather loud to gain the attention of all listeners, this is good as it grasps the attention of everyone meaning they all know the radio is back and changing section.

Presenter: Voice and Language
The presenter of ‘BANG RADIO’ is girl with a London accent meaning you can tell a bit more that this is based in London, this seems good as it seems consistent with the style, not just this but they way she speaks goes with it too, as it is for young people you do not expect it to be really formal and serious, she seems happy and informal and speaks in slang that young people will understand, for example when she wants people to call or text the show she said ‘hit us up’ and ‘drop us a call’ which is informal and it is slang. When she introduced a song she said ‘Egypt playin’ here live next’ which sounds very casual and informal for radio stations such as ‘Heart’.
Genre
The genre of BANG 103.6 is R&B, urban and Hip-Hop. This sort of music is associated with the younger generation as it is fast pace and the lyrics often relate to younger people instead of older people, also these genres are stereotypically linked to teenagers as you never hear older people listening to this.

Weather/News
The whole news section is really laid back and seems like it isn’t important, the presenter makes humour jokes about the rain. She mentions the weather is very little detail and just says it is raining in certain areas of London (as the radio station is from London) they don’t take the news seriously and go into little detail about it all. They don’t really mention the main news much in the section, just basic events that are happening in London, they might do this as they feel more young people listen and they don’t really want to be stuck listening to the news.
Interviews and Phone-ins
When I listened to ‘BANG’ there wasn’t an interview at this time.
Sound Effects/BitesTechno sounds are played after each song, as a transition. The whole radio station is filled with them as it’s hectic with fast paced music and excited, keep you concentrated. At one point they had sound clips of Artists saying hi, for example ‘check it out its Lemar how y’all doin’?’ and ‘hey it Alicia keys’ getting people excited for up-coming songs of the show.

Real Media Artefact: 96.4 Eagle Radio

Jingles
The jingles for this radio station are used to split up the sections and shows. The jingle is a techno sounding effect which sounds rather modern. The woman sounds slightly robotic when she says the next show or song for example for traffic news, the techno sound effect is played then the robotic woman says ‘in the city’ you can tell by the jingle this radio station is more for the younger generation around 13-30, as you wouldn’t really expect this kind of jingle for the older generation. When the jingle for the actual radio plays the same techno sound is played, the gender of the person changes which is a good variation so it isn’t the same all the time, the robotic sounding speaker is the same and they say ’96.4 eagle radio’, sometimes they even sing it which is another good variation.

Presenter: Voice and Language
The main presenter is a woman at the time I listened to the show, she did the news as well, and she was formal, polite and nice. She sounded like she enjoyed being there. This is a good thing as you wouldn’t want to listen to a person that drones on and sounds boring for the audience. She had a clear tone of voice and was very punctual. It sounded like there was a new person talking to each section, as there was a man for the sport news. He was laidback but still formal, he made sports sound excited as he was chatty and really got into what he was saying; this is a good technique as the listener would not get bored of what the presenter is saying.
Genrethe genre of music played was pop, soft rock and a slight bit or RnB. They varied what they played and varied the date of music, it was both old and new. They even said ‘playing your love for music variety’ which makes it seem like they know what their listeners want and they want them to be comfortable and relax with them and their radio station.

Weather/News
Un-like other news shows on the radio, music wasn’t played in the background, this made it seem more serious and doesn’t want the music to distract the listeners, this might seem like it would be slightly boring…but surprisingly it was not that bad. The news started off with a jingle. The presenter begins by saying her name (Elizabeth Williams) and mentions the small story headlines and then goes into details of the ‘breaking news’. The woman is the same as the presenter, so she’s formal, polite and nice. A vox-pop was used for one of the stories, it was a woman on the woman of the street who was involved in the investigation into a story, and you could tell he was on the street as you can hear cars in the background. The woman was giving advice to teenagers that take explicit pictures of themselves, which helps relate back to the idea of who ‘eagle radio’ is aimed too. When the sport section comes on, a man comes on to tell the story. He was laidback but still formal, he made sports sound excited as he was chatty and really got into what he was saying; this is a good technique as the listener would not get bored of what the presenter is saying.

Interviews and Phone-ins
When I was listening no interviews were played. But the radio advertised competitions and tried tempting people to call in and enter the competition, they then played little clips of people from previous competitions screaming and laughing when the won, and generally having fun, making it sound really fun. As well as this, they didn’t just used Phone-ins for the competitions; they also use it for the news, as a policeman also called in to talk about a situation within one of the stories, so phone-ins become useful in different ways and help get listeners and the public involved.

Sound Effects/Bites
The sound effects that are most commonly used are techno sounding. Also a presenter, being a man or a woman included within the jingle sound slightly robotic which ties in with the age range of listeners as well as the theme of the station. Sometimes after each song, a sound effect that sound like a plane flying past helps smoothly change into the next song, like a transition change. After each section adverts are played, usually if the section change over quickly, one advert is used. This advert is usually local and nearby so listeners would be more attracted to the companies that are being spoken about. When the advert section is being played, more nationwide companies are then spoken about, so the mixture of local and nationwide adverts are used quite well.

Inform and Planning: 'Radio Fresh'

Our radio station will be called ‘Radio Fresh’. Our questionnaire said that as well as people wanting to listen to music they wanted to hear weather, news and traffic announcements. The feedback was positive about news so we would like to add that and focus on this section as well as the music and friendliness of the show.

As it is a common feature of a radio station to include jingles before and after each section we will include a catchy jingle, which doesn’t overpower the audience and seems too in your face.
The genres of our radio station are varied as we want a wide range of listeners of different taste, gender and age. Dubstep, RnB, Dance and Indie are the genres that will be played. Different playlist for each sort of sections will be played at different types to split t he music around, but it could also be mixed up now and again so people don’t have to wait for a particular song.

As well as concentrating on the weather/news and the music, the presenter has to be formal and well spoken as this is what people want, it will be a male in ours, but according to the questionnaire people are not bothered on a gender. People calling into the show could be used as an entertainment section, also people calling in about traffic announcements and weather would be good to add.

Mentioning people texting and emailing in to the show would be a good technique as it shows we like hearing your opinion. Also podcasts will be created so listeners can download music and different shows on the radio station off the internet.

Informing and planning – Research

For further research into what people like in a radio station, I made a more advanced questionnaire to give to people to ensure that I know as much as I can in what people want, I created another 30 questionnaires which were a more detailed version of my first questionnaire, the results were helpful and helped me learn a great deal.
The people who took the questionnaire were between the ages of 15-30, this was because the radio station is aimed for people around this age range, luckily a very high majority of the people who took the questionnaire listened to the radio and listened to it all the time, but it doesn’t mean the people who don’t listen often should be ruled out as it is good to have inputs from people will different opinions as the radio station should be made for non-frequent listeners as well as heavy listeners. Almost everyone said they would be interested in a new radio station except for 2 people.
As we are linking are station to the likes of ‘Heart’ and other similar Radio stations, it was good to know it was one of the radio stations that get listened to a lot and it was peoples favourite, which means if we create one to be similar it has a high chance to be popular. We wanted to add some more music genres to ours such as Dubstep and more RnB to gain people who like different music, which was good as these two genres gained high votes in the question asking about peoples preferred genres, the other high results were indie, Rock and pop which was extremely good as these were the ones which we wanted to refer with ‘Heart.’
The main purpose of this Radio station apart from the music is news, unfortunately only 2 people voted for news being the reason they listened for music, but I considered this before the questionnaire was given out as Radio is made for music, so when it comes to creating the News section, research and planning should be taken into news to make it as clear, entertaining and interesting as possible so more people listen to it and people from different backgrounds listen to it. Not many people like listening to people talking according to the results, so this means planning should be considered when it comes to the interviews and news section due to people getting bored and not paying attention.
More people preferred an upbeat presenter instead of a slow and relaxed, this could be due to the fact that people like to be interested if they have to listen to the presenter, no one wants to be bored during these shows so this would be a good reason, it was close between the fact that people would prefer a man or woman, it seems to show more people are not bothered about the gender, as long as they are fun, interesting and keep the listeners entertained.
Not many people wanted to take part in competitions, which is completely understandable, due to the fact they did not want to lose out on money, the people who said ‘yes’ said its good fun as the presenters are friendly and you have a good time trying to win prizes. On the other hand, people like to listen to podcasts from the radio station on shows during the day they might have missed, so after peak times our Radio could include a podcast so people can stayed tuned throughout the day when they don’t have access to a radio. People tend to listen to the radio around more in the mornings and afternoons as opposed to the evenings, also the high majority listen on the way to a work place, In a car, these times could link to this due to the fact they could start and finish work around these times, I class these as the ‘peak times’ of radio.
These ‘peak times’ could mean in the morning would be tired and would like something to perk them up, people said their mood changes their feel for music, so in the morning more happy and upbeat songs could be played to help start the day off well and towards the afternoon more calmer songs. This would be a good thing to look into during planning.
Finally, people who took the questionnaire were asked about different radio names, another high majority answer meant that ‘Radio Fresh’ won everyone’s approval, this will be considered in further planning too.

Dolby

Alex, go back to your brief and consider what it is you are being asked to produce- it is a news bulletin so within your planning consider the tone and style this is- quite formal- and make sure that the radio station reflects this. Local radio does tend to appeal to a wide audience and more mature target market so consider this in your product placement.

Product Placement

Our radio station is going to be made for people of the younger generation. It can be for any gender and for anyone who likes Indie, Pop, Rock, Dubstep and RnB.
As the ages for the radio station is for a younger generation, from the ages 13-30 an extremely high majority of these people will be at school and work until around 9-5. Because of this, timing schedules should be put into place so people can listen to our station when they have enough time they can tune in and listen. After listening to more wide spread radio stations, we found that ‘Radio’ fitted the same categories as our station. Due to specific timing schedules and the taste in music, we realised we could fit in a show early morning for people on their way to school, work and other situations from 7-9 and then from 5-8, this way people can either tune in early in the morning or in the evening. For the station the presenters can be rather relaxed and chilled to let the listener have a sense of security, so they can enjoy the music and the shows more. When it comes to the news bulletin the type of formality should change, as the radio station is for such a wide range (13-30) they can all relate to the casual approach for the shows, but on the news it should be more formal to symbolise the importance of this part, as it is what occurs to everyone, as it would be formal, people would be listening more and not missing out on key information where as if it was laid back and casual people would tend not to listen as much.

Mrs D

This is a good start Alex. You start to identify c and cs of radio. Don't forget you have to create a news bulletin and therefore you should analyse that too. Try to link to audience and purpose to make your analysis more descriptive.

Real Media Artefact: Heart FM

Jingles
‘This is Heart!’ this jingle isn’t too fast paced and abrupt, it’s steady paced and calm woman’s singing voice. After each song is played the woman just says the jingle to remind you who you’re tuned in with, when the radio station changes the topic such as songs to weather etc. the woman begins to sing the jingle, to keep you paying attention and let you know that it’s changing.

Presenter: Voice and Language
The section I listened to was in the afternoon, it was called ‘Afternoon with Nick Snaith’. The presenter was male, he had a clear voice with a calm and friendly tone, it was quite laid back and soft, he sounded like he was trying to get the attention of people around the ages of 20-30 as he wasn’t too sophisticated for the older generation and he wasn’t hyper and energetic enough to be reaching out to the ages of 13-18

Genre
The general genre of this radio station was just general classics and feel good music. The pop music was usually around 5-10 years old with the occasional frequent chart fillers. There was some soft rock included, and most of the songs included a reference about love, this I felt was a good technique to fit with the genre and name of the radio station, being ‘Heart’. I felt as the music that was usually played was 5-10 years old that it could be aimed at attracting 20-30 year olds as it was the type of music they can relate to, as 13-18 year olds wouldn’t of remembered some of the songs, whereas 20-30 year olds are more likely to relate to it.

Weather/News
When the news comes on upbeat music comes on, this is rather stereotypical as most radio stations do this, so you know it’s the news that’s come on, the man presenter has been taken over by a woman for the news. She is extremely clear so the listener doesn’t miss out on vital information, she is steady and interesting and speaks in various tone so it doesn’t drone on and become boring. Next she talks about the traffic, she sounds rather sympathetic towards the people stuck in traffic and sounds rather precautious for people to let them know they should watch out, she goes onto thanking the people who text in about traffic problems, so even during the weather and news the like looking after their listeners. She then talks about the weather and is happy when she mentions there is good weather on the day so that she can relate to the listeners, by saying ‘finally some sunshine today with clear spells all day’ sounding delighted to try and make the listeners happy about the news they have just heard. She then then goes onto sport, talking about latest results at the weekend and latest news, informing people with varied tastes for news whether its for sport, general news or weather. She sounds sympthatic when talking about a team losing and insures the listeners it was a 'good game' and it was a 'close fight' which is good as she is trying to reassure listeners who might not be wanting the bad news.

Interviews and Phone-ins
The phone-in I witnessed was during a competition, when the caller phones into the radio station looking to win prizes in competitions held by the radio. When the listener calls in the presenter is friendly and gives the contestant a warm welcome onto the show. The presenter is funny and polite and makes the caller have a nice time, he makes the caller laugh from time to time and it sounds like they are both having fun, and it is also rather fun for the listener. The way they talk to each other has a sense of ‘banter’ about it, it makes you want to try and call in next time there is an opportunity.

Sound Effects/Bites
There aren’t many sound bites or effects used on the radio stations except for a few random techno-like parts on the introduction ‘this is heart’ but it can’t be too intense as it will ruin the whole theme of the ‘chilled out’ approach. Apart from this there are a few sound effects on adverts but they aren’t really part of the radio station itself. Music is played on news bulletins and weather to grab the attention of the listener, this technique is used a lot on other radio stations too, so it is rather stereotypical for the news section.

Initial Questionnaire Analysis

Question 1 – What is your gender?
Over half of the people that took our questionnaire are female. Most of the females that were asked on the questionnaire said that they listened to BBC Radio 1. The majority of the male sex said that they listened to Capital fm.

Question 2 – How old are you?
The majority of the people that took our questionnaire were 17 – 20 years old. In fact half of the people that took the questionnaire were 17 – 20 years old. The second highest age that we asked were 13 – 16 years old. The rest of the people that we asked were all fairly equal ages from 20-40 years. The majority of the younger generation said that they access the radio whilst ‘On – the – go’. This is mostly because of the technology that the younger generation tend to have. This could show a trend within radio stations, meaning that Capital FM and BBC Radio 1 are stations for a young age.

Question 3 – Do you listen to the radio?
80% of the people that took the questionnaire said that they listen to the radio. Only 20% said that they do not listen to the radio. The main reason why people do not listen to the radio said that they don’t because they do not have a car or a device that can access radio on the go.

Question 4 - If so, how often do you listen to the radio?
From this pie chart you can see that the majority of people listen to the radio once a day, the next biggest group of people didn’t listen to the radio at all. Then it was the people who listened to the radio more than once a day followed by people who listened once a week or more than once a week.

Question 5 - What radio stations do you usually listen to?
We asked people what radio stations they listened to, Radio 1 and capital fm were the most popular choices. BBC Radio 1, Kiss 100, Heart and Magic were the next most popular stations with Eagle, other and people who don’t listen to the radio were the least favourite.

Question 6 - Where do you listen to the radio?
Where do you listen to the radio? The majority of people listened to the radio in the car, followed by at home, at work, on the go and I don’t listen to radio. From this it is clear to see that people like to listen to the radio whilst moving or doing something, this could be to pass time quickly.
