Jingles
The jingles for this radio station are used to split up the sections and shows. The jingle is a techno sounding effect which sounds rather modern. The woman sounds slightly robotic when she says the next show or song for example for traffic news, the techno sound effect is played then the robotic woman says ‘in the city’ you can tell by the jingle this radio station is more for the younger generation around 13-30, as you wouldn’t really expect this kind of jingle for the older generation. When the jingle for the actual radio plays the same techno sound is played, the gender of the person changes which is a good variation so it isn’t the same all the time, the robotic sounding speaker is the same and they say ’96.4 eagle radio’, sometimes they even sing it which is another good variation.
Presenter: Voice and Language
The main presenter is a woman at the time I listened to the show, she did the news as well, and she was formal, polite and nice. She sounded like she enjoyed being there. This is a good thing as you wouldn’t want to listen to a person that drones on and sounds boring for the audience. She had a clear tone of voice and was very punctual. It sounded like there was a new person talking to each section, as there was a man for the sport news. He was laidback but still formal, he made sports sound excited as he was chatty and really got into what he was saying; this is a good technique as the listener would not get bored of what the presenter is saying.
Genrethe genre of music played was pop, soft rock and a slight bit or RnB. They varied what they played and varied the date of music, it was both old and new. They even said ‘playing your love for music variety’ which makes it seem like they know what their listeners want and they want them to be comfortable and relax with them and their radio station.
Weather/News
Un-like other news shows on the radio, music wasn’t played in the background, this made it seem more serious and doesn’t want the music to distract the listeners, this might seem like it would be slightly boring…but surprisingly it was not that bad. The news started off with a jingle. The presenter begins by saying her name (Elizabeth Williams) and mentions the small story headlines and then goes into details of the ‘breaking news’. The woman is the same as the presenter, so she’s formal, polite and nice. A vox-pop was used for one of the stories, it was a woman on the woman of the street who was involved in the investigation into a story, and you could tell he was on the street as you can hear cars in the background. The woman was giving advice to teenagers that take explicit pictures of themselves, which helps relate back to the idea of who ‘eagle radio’ is aimed too. When the sport section comes on, a man comes on to tell the story. He was laidback but still formal, he made sports sound excited as he was chatty and really got into what he was saying; this is a good technique as the listener would not get bored of what the presenter is saying.
Interviews and Phone-ins
When I was listening no interviews were played. But the radio advertised competitions and tried tempting people to call in and enter the competition, they then played little clips of people from previous competitions screaming and laughing when the won, and generally having fun, making it sound really fun. As well as this, they didn’t just used Phone-ins for the competitions; they also use it for the news, as a policeman also called in to talk about a situation within one of the stories, so phone-ins become useful in different ways and help get listeners and the public involved.
Sound Effects/Bites
The sound effects that are most commonly used are techno sounding. Also a presenter, being a man or a woman included within the jingle sound slightly robotic which ties in with the age range of listeners as well as the theme of the station. Sometimes after each song, a sound effect that sound like a plane flying past helps smoothly change into the next song, like a transition change. After each section adverts are played, usually if the section change over quickly, one advert is used. This advert is usually local and nearby so listeners would be more attracted to the companies that are being spoken about. When the advert section is being played, more nationwide companies are then spoken about, so the mixture of local and nationwide adverts are used quite well.
